Gretel von Bargen
Gretel is a dedicated and passionate high school biology teacher, who motivates students with engaging lessons and an infectious curiosity for the study of life. Her classes are infused with multiple interactive instructional methods- music, dance, games and modeling- to support science learning. Gretel values collegiality and works closely with teachers locally and globally to learn new techniques and to share knowledge of successful techniques with others, all with the goal of improving student learning. She has a B.S. in Zoology, a B.S. in Psychology and a Master in Teaching, all from the University of Washington. Gretel serves as a member of the University of Washington Professional Educators advisory board and holds a National Board Certificate in Adolescent and Young Adult Science. She received the 2010 Presidential Scholar Teacher Recognition Award, the 2011 Sammamish Learning Promotion Award and was a 2013 Washington State awardee of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. Gretel is an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow.
