Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections
Songs texts in German and English translations (6 p.) inserted in container.

Vol. 1 is FC 7270.

Ernst Wolff (1905-1991), classically trained singer of opera and German lied, recorded a total of five albums of German songs for Folkways, always accompanying himself on the piano. Three of the five relate to youth (children and students). Having been raised in Germany, it's no surprise that two of his Folkways recordings are of German Children songs, having sprightly, straightforward melodies appropriate for the young. Volume 2 includes not only songs, but a variety of singing games, for which - in the liner notes - instructions are provided, along with "singable" English translations. The liner notes include the German lyrics plus English translations and game instructions.

Israeli children's songs [sound recording] : sung in Hebrew / by Miriam Ben-Ezra

Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections
Programs notes in English and texts in Hebrew (8 p. : ill.) inserted in container.

Although raised in New York City, Miriam Ben-Ezra was immersed in an atmosphere of Israeli culture, enabling her to sing Israeli Children's Songs, in Hebrew, accompanied on the accordion by Eli Plotnick. With straightforward melodies and rhythms, even the songs that might be considered more for adults than children (such as the well-known soldiers' song, Finjan) can be appreciated by children of all ages. Many of the songs are about animals, from farm animals to squirrels and birds - and even one about a dancing porcupine, who has difficulty finding a partner, for obvious reasons! Liner notes provide biographical information about Ben-Ezra, as well as the songs' Hebrew lyrics and English translations.
