Dr. Amy Shell-Gellasch is an historian of mathematics. She teaches mathematics and math education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti MI. From 2013 through 2018 she did research at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History where she prepared collections of mathematical devises for the Smithsonian's online collections. Her research is in the history of mathematics and its uses in teaching. She has her BS Ed in math and physics from the University of Michigan, her MA from Oakland University, and her DA in mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Art and Mathematics: The Paintings of Crocket Johnson

<p>American painter Crocket Johnson (1906-1975) was inspired my mathematics and physics during the last decade of this life. He painted over 100 works that depict ideas from mathematics. These images can be used in courses from Art Appreciation to Mathematics. The Crocket Johnson object group from the Smithsonian National Museum of American History was curated by historian of mathematics Judy Green.</p><p>#MCteach<br /></p>
