<p class="text-justify">How do we represent our roots artistically? What can a portrait tell us about the sense of identity of the subject? Focusing on a famous athlete from the Dominican Republic, students will explore the personal history of the pitcher, Pedro Martínez, and how his cultural pride is portrayed on canvas. Class members will read a recent biography of Martínez before examining his portrait, <strong><em>Pride and Determination</em></strong>, currently on exhibition in <strong><em>Twentieth-Century Americans: 1990 to Present</em></strong>. #NPGteach</p>
