Sons of Liberty

This collection depicts the organization created in the 13 colonies known as the Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty were a society that was established in opposition of the Stamp Act in 1765. They also defended colonial rights through radical means. I believe the Sons of Liberty were very influential and is still influential in Present Day. This is because the Sons of Liberty were one of the first organizations to stand up against oppression from the British at the time. They impacted the revolution and brought attention to the unjust billing from the British with their slogan. "No Taxation without Representation!"

The Collection below consists of:

Image of tarring and feathering acts from Sons of Liberty

Newspaper about a British arms raid

Letter from General Committee of Charleston to the Sons of Liberty

Records of some members

Diary of John Rowe

Picture of loyalists signing their allegiance to the Sons of Liberty

Boston common obelisk dedicated to the Sons, in celebration of the Stamp Act repeal

Painting of the pulling down of George III statue in July 1776
