In this Learning Lab collection, we’ll use the work of artist and educator Oasa DuVerney, and a combination of additional collection objects, as an exercise in how we might use creativity and critical thought to respond to the objects around us. The title of this 5-part series, "I Saw Your Light and it was Shining," is taken from the poem Rhinoceros Woman, written by writer and Black Liberation Army activist Assata Shakur. This poem influenced DuVerney's thinking in creating these original drawings that respond to objects in Cooper Hewitt's collection.
