Radiator, Narrow Angle Camera, LROC

National Air and Space Museum
This is the radiator from the Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). It helps to prevent the camera from overheating during operation in space.

The NAC is a CCD camera attached to a powerful telescope with a 700mm focal length. It can take black and white images of the Moon with a resolution of less than a meter. It arrived at the Moon onboard the LRO spacecraft in 2009.

This flight spare instrument is identical to the flown instrument built by Malin Space Science Systems. NASA transferred the camera to the Museum in 2016.

Globe Wide-Angle Lens

National Museum of American History
Using lenses like the Globe Wide-Angle Lens, photographers were able to visually record the war. In the words of Mathew Brady, the camera was now "the eye of history."

Scoop, Small, Adjustable-Angle

National Air and Space Museum
The small adjustable angle scoop consisted of a small, pivoting head mounted on a shaft which could be connected to an extension handle. The scoop was designed to be either pushed or pulled. Astronauts used this type of scoop on the Apollo 15 mission, the first mission to use a "large tool carrier" mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle. This item was used for training.

NASA transferred this scoop to NASM in 1974.

Hardware, Wide Angle Camera, LROC

National Air and Space Museum
These are parts associated with the Wide Angle Camera (WAC) from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft.

The WAC is a CCD camera equipped with a wide baffle. It can capture broad images in five visible light bands and two ultraviolet light bands. Images from the WAC have been used to produce detailed photomosaic maps of the Moon. LRO arrived at the Moon in 2009.

This flight spare instrument is identical to the flown instrument built by Malin Space Science Systems. NASA transferred the camera to the Museum in 2016.

Transmitter, Angle of Attack

National Air and Space Museum
Angle of attack transmitter with 17 pin connector includes vane; also used as sideslip transmitter; range + or - 25 degree.

Scoop, Adjustable-Angle, Large

National Air and Space Museum
The large adjustable angle scoop consisted of a pivoting head mounted on a shaft which could be connected to an extension handle. The scoop was designed to be either pushed or pulled. Astronauts used this type of scoop on the Apollo 16 and 17 missions. This item was used for training.

NASA transferred this scoop to NASM in 1974.
