The sheet music was first published by William A. Pond and Co. in 1900. The music appeared as a supplement to New York Herald, on June 14, 1903. The cover features an illustration of a man who has dismounted from his horse and cast down his hat and riding crop. His arms are outstretched towards a spectral vision of his lady love in a tree.
