A native of Adamsville, Pennsylvania, Sierra Green completed her Masters in Library and Information Science with a specialization in Archives, Preservation, and Records Management from the University of Pittsburgh in 2012. As an archivist at the Detre Library & Archives of the Senator John Heinz History Center, Sierra is engaged in archival processing and reference services in addition to her work in public and educational programming. Throughout her graduate and professional work thus far, Sierra has fostered a deep passion for and interest in archival outreach, engagement, and public awareness. She treasures opportunities to engage learners of all ages with the remarkable stories and insights contained in archival records.

Historical Empathy with Archival Documents

<p>Sierra Green, archivist at the Senator John Heinz History Center's Detre Library &amp; Archives, conducted an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vyp400vV4zg">online session</a> highlighting multiple perspectives throughout history using materials from archival collections. </p><p>Archival materials can illuminate viewpoints at times overlooked in historical study, as they persist as remnants of individuals' voices in history. Included in this collection are facsimiles of materials from three local Pittsburgh stories. </p><p>Teachers can use these examples to examine history from the experiences of people who directly participated in those events. </p>

Weikers Family Collection

<p>A collection of archival records and photographs documenting the Weikers family's experience in Nazi Germany and their persistent efforts to seek asylum in the United States.</p> <p>Also included in this collection is an accompanying activity sheet on building archival narratives.
