<p></p><p>When a piece of craft work is placed in a gallery the narrative of the work grows and viewers are given a chance to entertain a variety of perspectives about the piece. Craft work has the capability to place a message over the functionality of the piece. Every aspect that the artist put into the piece, including the material, adds to the message presented and interpretation of others. The artist is trying to start a conversation between the viewer and the piece as well as give viewers an opportunity to have a conversation among themselves. Students will learn how to make visual sense of an object and form their own opinion about the message that the piece is presenting to them.</p><p></p>

<p></p><p>Craft can be used to respond to and record events in the world. How can an artist successfully translate a personal or national reaction into a craft work? Which moments are “remembered” this way? Students will learn to analyze an object and explore the interconnected nature of moments in the past to better understand the complexities of today. </p><p></p>

<p></p><p>The artist’s imagination may be limitless but his or her materials and tools available do place limitations. How can an artist put their knowledge to into practice, working around their limitations and learn more at the same time? Students will explore how some craft artists have to question the techniques and materials they use in order to create/use a new approach</p><br /><p></p>
